Sculptures crafted from shards of glass, shaped by diamonds, offer viewers a unique opportunity to reinterpret themselves through the interplay of light. Sunlight is the primary external factor influencing the material's expression during the day, while various artificial lighting sources shape its appearance at night. The artist's main intention with these glass works is to fulfill the desire for a simple yet powerful form to seamlessly merge with the material.

The glass used in these sculptures is reclaimed from factory offcuts and waste, typically discarded during production. By transforming these recycled glass pieces into art, the artist embraces the principle of upcycling, turning what would otherwise be waste into meaningful creations. This approach not only underscores the potential of discarded materials but also aims to foster social awareness about the sustainability of high-quality artistic production.

Artist Artem Martis, who transforms glass waste into works of art, will be exhibiting his work at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum for two years, starting in September 2025.

Known for turning discarded glass into captivating art pieces, Martis brings together the themes of transformation, light, and mythology. His work Apollo, inspired by Apollo—the god of music, arts, poetry, and fire—reflects the harmonious dance between glass and light, inviting viewers to explore the intersection of myth and material.

Visitors will be able to view Apollo at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum free of charge throughout the exhibition period, which will continue until September 2027.
